myths & tales:
I've always wanted to create a marionette, and a project for my Jewelry class gave me the opportunity (as well as the impetus) to do it. She is sculpted from dark purple Premo, a variety of Scuply. Her right "arm" is actually a wing contructed from copper netting and copper mesh, while in her left, human hand she holds a fan made from copper mesh and Ring-necked pheasant feathers. Although it's difficult to see in the picture, her abdomen reveals a real bird egg (I found this small, hollow shell a few years ago along my driveway) entwined with copper wire, resting in a "nest" of glass beading. Crocheted copper wire connects her limbs to a structure I made from driftwood which allows her to move.
